Porsche Club Of America - Chicago Region

Rallye

A TSD rallye is not a race, rather it is a contest in which a team consisting of a driver and a navigator combine driving, observational, mathematical, and communicative skills (as well as patience) in the negotiation of a prescribed road course at prescribed speeds. The main objective is to stay on course following a set of route instructions that each team receives before the start of the rallye. The route instructions define what route to follow and what average speeds to maintain. Rallye scores are determined by timing the arrival of each rallye car at points along the rallye route and comparing the times against the official rallye time. These timing points are called checkpoints and their locations are not known in advance. It’s kind of like going to Grandma’s House only you don’t know where it is and you don’t know how to get there but you have to arrive precisely on time.

The rallye teams should be alerted to “trap situations” which may be encountered along the route. Traps are used by the rallyemaster to entice the rallye teams to deviate from the true rallye route or to proceed at a speed that varies from the official average speed. All of the planned traps will loop back onto the rallye route, or off course markers will bring you back to the rallye route, and bring rallye cars into the checkpoints.

The Chicago Region will hold a Rallye School for the beginner rallye team followed by a “Fun Rallye”. Then throughout the year we will hold 5 additional Rallyes. These events provide an opportunity to see and drive some very scenic roads as well as have a lot of fun competing.

These are some of the best you will find especially at this time of year. This weekend should be at the height of the fall color change. The rallye will begin at the Chalet Landhaus in New Glarus and will end at the Suisse Haus in Monroe, WI. There is also a Group dinner scheduled for Saturday Night at the Chalet Landhaus.

Drive up Saturday and spend the day exploring New Glarus or playing golf at one of the nearby golf courses. Visit the home of Spotted Cow Beer at New Glarus Brewery.

Don’t want to rallye, but would still like to explore the area? Make a donation to our charity, Toys-for-Tots. You will be given a set of touring instructions to enjoy the same roads the rallyists will be driving. So there is something for everyone!

Do not wait to make Hotel reservations at the Chalet Landhaus. This weekend is one of their busiest of the year due to the color change. Although they are waiving their two-night stay requirement, they are only holding the block of rooms until September 17th. SO CALL NOW TO MAKE A RESERVATION!
